11/9 GERONIMO!!!

DARRYL MASON HAS FINALLY EVOLVED!!!  Our game’s protagonist is no longer air thrusting his way through the stages of grief.  He also has “A Little(Furry) Friend.”  Enter THE KITTEN CANNON, the first special weapon to be revealed for Bereavement!!!  And last but not least, we have a PSYCHOTIC B-BOY ON OUR HANDS!!!  That is to say that the transition of Darryl going into Insanity Mode is a thing now.

I’ve come up with an efficient way to make sure that all sprite frames are centered every single time.  I make a separate layer and draw a single white pixel at 1% opacity in each corner so that the entire canvas serves as the frame’s dimensions when I use Ctrl + A and Ctrl + Shift +C.  It also makes cutting frames in Unity’s Sprite Editor much less time consuming because of the grid option.

10/12 You've Got Mail!!!

I've made a few items to populate the background.  I found out that even when you’re making background objects, everything has to be made relative to each other as well as within the same dimensions.  I made a pile of garbage and a cockroach in the same dimensions, when I scaled them to the proper size to each other they cockroach appeared to be in High Definition…which isn’t what we’re looking for in a retro style 8-bit video game.

Path of Pixels

I can’t believe how amazingly (most) Adobe Products work together!!!  Aside from doing a bit of concept and structuring for creating assets in illustrator, having the ability to copy the vector paths bring them into photoshop is awesome.  This has allowed me to cut my pixelating sprite process down by approximately 75%...also, THE SPRITES LOOK BETTER, TOO!!!  Of course, there are vector tools in photoshop, but they don’t have the same feel or editing potential as in illustrator. See.

When we first started to develop in our white box, we had an issue with the camera trying to show everything in a 3d perspective.  With my experience with 3d modeling software, I figured out that we needed an ORTHAGRAPHIC CAMERA that would make everything flat and give us the desired old school feel that we like so much.  It is pretty cool, though!

Small Delay for Large Gains...Totally Worth it!

Although we had to prolong Sprint 0, everything with Bereavement is a lot less convoluted and we have much more solid foundation to build upon as a result.  Personally, I cannot stress how much I am enjoying working on Bereavement!  Our goal is shipped and I believe that we can do it.  The team seems to be determined and the majority are killing it in our respective disciplines.

Take that, Giovanni!!!

I’m not crazy, I’m just dedicated.  I’ve been operating under the pretense that as long as working on this game and killing it, the sooner that I’ll be able to start working in the field(s) that I love.  You can’t knock it after you’ve seen the light at the end of the tunnel.  THE CAKE IS A LIE… BUT A PROFITABLE CAREER IN THE VIDEO GAME WORLD IS VERY VERY REAL!!!

I'd love for you to show me how to catch Pokemon, Creepy Viridian City Guy that just so happens to run into Weedles, EXCLUSIVELY!

I’m pretty sure that I just leveled-up in life.  It’s pretty cool, but a little anticlimactic since there were no musical cues and place to strategically boost my stats.  I think the catalyst for this occurrence was the realization that we are really making this game…FORREALZIES!!!! Also, the fact that I left butt imprints on my futon from deving for nine straight hours probably helped, too. NO RARE CANDY! AU NATURALE!!!
