When we first started to develop in our white box, we had an
issue with the camera trying to show everything in a 3d perspective. With my experience with 3d modeling software,
I figured out that we needed an ORTHAGRAPHIC CAMERA that would make everything
flat and give us the desired old school feel that we like so much. It is pretty cool, though!

Small Delay for Large Gains...Totally Worth it!
Although we had to prolong Sprint 0, everything with
Bereavement is a lot less convoluted and we have much more solid foundation to
build upon as a result. Personally, I
cannot stress how much I am enjoying working on Bereavement! Our goal is shipped and I believe that we can
do it. The team seems to be determined
and the majority are killing it in our respective disciplines.
Take that, Giovanni!!!
I’m not crazy, I’m just dedicated. I’ve been operating under the pretense that as
long as working on this game and killing it, the sooner that I’ll be able to
start working in the field(s) that I love.
You can’t knock it after you’ve seen the light at the end of the
tunnel. THE CAKE IS A LIE… BUT A
PROFITABLE CAREER IN THE VIDEO GAME WORLD IS VERY VERY REAL!!!
I'd love for you to show me how to catch Pokemon, Creepy Viridian City Guy that just so happens to run into Weedles, EXCLUSIVELY!
I’m pretty sure that I just leveled-up in life. It’s pretty cool, but a little anticlimactic
since there were no musical cues and place to strategically boost my
stats. I think the catalyst for this occurrence
was the realization that we are really making this game…FORREALZIES!!!! Also, the
fact that I left butt imprints on my futon from deving for nine straight hours
probably helped, too. NO RARE CANDY! AU NATURALE!!!
Pixel Man in a 8bit Condo or Block Guy in a Photoshop Bungalow
I love the fact that we are channeling our inner Hilton
Jacobs Projects for our apartment building!
Of course, the shenanigans will not be dripping with comedy and/or Eddie
Murphy. It’s pretty depressing although
the bricks look like legos at the moment.
It’s been a blast making objects for the character to interact with in
the game.
Now did I stammer? Work that Programmer!
As I said before, I am a man with many interests. This being the case, I thought it would be
fun to learn some programming. It really
speaks to my left-brain dominant functioning thingie. The language is kinda weird, but after
learning the basics, the rest is SUPER FUN MENTAL GYMNASTICS!!!
One Blast from Euphoric Darkness
So, I have been doing a wee bit more than Art and Animation
for Bereavement. I have also started to
make music for the soundtrack. Being the
multifaceted person that I am, I could not pass up the opportunity to make some
tunes. I made this one for when the ending credits are rolling. Enjoy!

SIX PIXELS NONE THE RICHER
Originally, I wanted to do all of the art assets on 40x40
pixel tiles. Obviously, this was not the
greatest idea I ever had but it was a start.
The problem with 40x40 tiles is that the amount of detail that I want to
show requires a bit more space. So, I
decided that it would be feasible to bump the dimensions to 80x80 pixels and
still keep the minimalist style with just a bit of detail.
LIKE A BOSS...CHARACTER
Life
has officially been breathed into our Protagonist and miscellaneous
antagonists. At the moment, I have
created idle and walking animations for the main character (sane/insane mode)
and generic enemies. I have also created
a few of the bosses. My favorite is the
final boss.
EAT THE CAKE... ANIMATE!
It’s pretty weird when I think about what I originally wanted
to accomplish this semester. I have
already surpassed my minimum goals ten-fold.
The creation of Bereavement seems so to be so tangible now!!! Some of my favorite pieces thus far are the
steaming pipe and Light fixture.
QUENCH YOUR THIRST...SPRITES AIGHT!!!
ERMAHGERD!!! SPRITE SHEETS! SPRITE SHEETS! Where have you
been my whole life? Sprite sheets were
such an intangible thing to me for most of my life. How do they make Super Mario do all that cool
stuff? Did Lara Croft just pick her
nose? This is by far the MOST
IMPORTANT thing I learned this semester as far as art and animation are
concerned. This is a tool that I will be
utilizing until the day I die!!!
GETTING PIXELATED
So we decided that we would use Pixel art for our game. This made me really happy considering that I
grew up with Nintendo, Sega Genesis and such.
It makes me feel really nostalgic which makes me believe that many other
gamers feel the same way since our target audience is more or less people like
ourselves. Come to find out that my Techie at
heart with a passion for the arts approach really lends itself to the
Pixel Art style. MORE 8BIT, PLEASE!!!
ARTISTS ARE NOT OBSOLETE
So, just when I thought that the GAB single-handedly made
the artist(s) obsolete, I found out that GABbie has an interesting friend named
TABbie. Of course, I’m talking about the
Tech Art Bible. I understand why these are so important, but I’m sort of miserly
and mildly paranoid so the thought of showing people how to recreate something
I made is asking for style jacking. Oh
well, I guess that means that I must keep getting better… I GET IT!!!!
Duh! Don’t rest on your laurels and
strive for excellence ALWAYS.
GAME ART BIBLE
Who knew that there was so much that went into creating art
to be implemented in a video game project?
Not me! It’s nice knowing that
there’s a method to the madness of video game art. Everything from Characters to the random
piece of trash next to the door is addressed in the game art bible. The mood, environment, and art style are also
addressed in GAB. It’s kinda funny since
this more or less makes the artist(s) obsolete… Oh well, the fact remains that
no one does it like myself. ;)
